<p>The Symposium on Teacher Training in Exact Sciences and Computing (SLEC) consists of an event with the objective of fostering debates, discussions and reflections on the theme "Digital technologies and science teaching in contemporary society" to discuss the various roles, technologies and the professional contexts related to the theme. The event involves undergraduate courses for the training of high school teachers in the areas of science, mathematics and technology, and in 2019 occurs at the Center for Marine Studies of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), located in Pontal do Paraná, Brazil. The event's activities include mini-courses on Particle Physics and Programming Language. In this context, the ATLAS Virtual Visits is an excellent opportunity for students to know more about the research in Particle Physics and the context of the production of scientific research.</p>

<p>the framework of the local CNRS club and its regular conference and workshop programme, Yann Coadou will present the scientific context, past discoveries, ongoing studies and bright future of the Large hadron collider (LHC) at CERN. This is the continuation of a longstanding collaboration between the Centre de physique des particules de Marseille and the Lycée Lætitia Bonaparte. This conference, following a day-long particle physics masterclass for some of the students, will include a live connection with a scientist at CERN, leading us into a virtual visit of the ATLAS detector, the largest experiment at the LHC, while answering questions from the audience.</p>

<p>Scifest Africa, South Africa’s National Science Festival, was established in 1996 to promote the public awareness, understanding and appreciation of science, technology and innovation (STI) in South Africa. The project consists of two components, namely the annual National Science Festival held in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape in March, as well as a range of local, regional and national science outreach programmes implemented throughout the year. Scifest Africa is a project of the Grahamstown Foundation NPC, a non-profit company and public benefit organisation (PBO) established in 1969 and based in Grahamstown. The 23rd edition of South Africa’s National Science Festival will be celebrated from 6-12 March 2019. The theme “Discover your element” celebrates the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements as proclaimed by the United Nations.</p>

<p>This year's annual International Particle Physics Masterclasses at the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering in Prague will take place on the 8th of March. For the fifteenth time, participating high school students will be given an opportunity to gain a unique insight into particle physics, with a particular emphasis on the ATLAS and LHCb experiments. After the morning theoretical session consisting of a series of instructive lectures on the basic principles of particle physics, the students will be able to analyze real data from either of the two experiments, based on their personal preference (yet with the necessity of approximately the same number of participants for each experiment). The analyses involve the search for the Higgs boson via Z boson decays (ATLAS) or measuring the lifetime of the D0 meson (LHCb). The higlight of the day is the subsequent videoconference with CERN, in which all participating institutions partake and present and discuss their respective results.</p>

<p>In parallel, as part of the Colombian Meeting on High Energy Physics, Carlos Sandoval (ATLAS, UAN-Bogota), is organising a short masterclass session with high school students from "Tecnocentro Somos Pacífico”, at Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. The Tecnocentro is a community centre that offers training in arts and technology to young people with any degree of vulnerability condition in the city of Cali. Professor John Ellis (King’s College London) first established contact with the centre in September and was very impressed by their efforts. He has been behind this initiative and will also be joining the virtual visit. </p>

<p>The festival includes 3 different events - <a href="//ippog.org/">IPPOG</a> MasterClasses, Workshop, Art-Science exhibition - and aims at fostering youth's interest in fundamental research, engineering, IT technologies and mathematics.</p>
<p>This Virtual Visit will connect students &amp; colleagues running the ATLAS Master-Classes to Georgian physicists currently involved in Tile Calorimeter testbeam activities @ CERN. </p>

<!-- Replace default by booking form content --><p>The event "MEETmeTONIGHT - Faccia a faccia con la ricerca" is the European Researchers' Night in Milano (Giardini Indro Montanelli) on September, Friday 28th and Saturday 29th. The event is a special occasion of interaction, for a face-to-face meeting with the world of research. It will feature a broad array of outreach activities, with interactive stands, hands-on experiments, live demo, short conferences, film projections etc… In particular, on Friday (6:30pm, free access) we will project the movie "Il senso della bellezza: Arte e scienza al CERN" by Valerio Jalongo, and we plan to have the ATLAS virtual visit right after that. The audience will be the large public, the same who will attend the event. We expect the same people watching the movie will stay for the virtual visit. The maximum capacity of the room in which we will project the movie is 90 persons</p>
