The BergamoScienza Festival is a scientific divulgation event born in 2003 from the intuition and willingness of a group of friends, the Founding Members, which every year involves the city and the province of Bergamo in a program full of initiatives that explore scientific and technologies from the most varied fields. The main purpose is to make science accessible to all, especially young people and schools, so that they can improve and perfect their technical-scientific training and increase their interests. Three are the most important peculiarities: the approach used in addressing and comparing the various issues, made available also to a non-specialist public; the free admission for all events; the extraordinary participation of schools, teachers and students in particular, in the organization of numerous scientific exhibits. For the first two weeks of October, the city of Bergamo becomes the setting of an event that has international resonance and offers conferences, exhibitions, workshops, shows and much more. In the previous editions of the Festival, BergamoScienza had the extraordinary opportunity to host Nobel Prizes and prestigious researchers and experts from various scientific fields: chemistry, physics, medicine, mathematics, engineering, astronomy, neuroscience, etc.

Prague

This year's annual International Particle Physics Masterclasses at the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering in Prague will take place on the 8th of March. For the fifteenth time, participating high school students will be given an opportunity to gain a unique insight into particle physics, with a particular emphasis on the ATLAS and LHCb experiments. After the morning theoretical session consisting of a series of instructive lectures on the basic principles of particle physics, the students will be able to analyze real data from either of the two experiments, based on their personal preference (yet with the necessity of approximately the same number of participants for each experiment). The analyses involve the search for the Higgs boson via Z boson decays (ATLAS) or measuring the lifetime of the D0 meson (LHCb). The higlight of the day is the subsequent videoconference with CERN, in which all participating institutions partake and present and discuss their respective results.

Glasgow

We are organizing an event that will involve the
undergraduate students of the University of Glasgow, in the School of
Physics and Astronomy. We’ll invite them to join the virtual visit to give
them the opportunity to see what happens in a HEP experiment and ask
questions on ATLAS and particle physics. The aim is to show to people
interested in physics but not (yet) involved in particle physics how the
research in this field works and in particular at CERN and using the ATLAS
detector. The virtual visit with the control room will provide an initial idea
about what is studied at CERN and how, and will also help the students to
understand the meaning of working in a big collaboration with such an
advanced and complicated detector. Moreover since the Glasgow group is
actively working on detector develop, maintenance and data analysis in
ATLAS It will also allow the students to engage with research ongoing in
their own University.

Students will have completed their first half term of A-level. They will have learnt about particles and just had an assessment. Purpose is for them to ask lots of questions, learn about what is it like to be a scientists and to show that what they learn in school is used outside of school!

Milano

The event "MEETmeTONIGHT - Faccia a faccia con la ricerca" is the European Researchers' Night in Milano (Giardini Indro Montanelli) on September, Friday 28th and Saturday 29th. The event is a special occasion of interaction, for a face-to-face meeting with the world of research. It will feature a broad array of outreach activities, with interactive stands, hands-on experiments, live demo, short conferences, film projections etc… In particular, on Friday (6:30pm, free access) we will project the movie "Il senso della bellezza: Arte e scienza al CERN" by Valerio Jalongo, and we plan to have the ATLAS virtual visit right after that. The audience will be the large public, the same who will attend the event. We expect the same people watching the movie will stay for the virtual visit. The maximum capacity of the room in which we will project the movie is 90 persons

Second year physics students from Marseille, Montpellier and Toulouse have been selected to participate to this year’s edition from 11 to 16 June. They will do real science through astronomical observations, muon flux measurements and rediscovering the Higgs boson with real data from the ATLAS detector, and get a broad overview of particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology.
